A Permanent Fix for Missing & Damaged Teeth
Are you distressed by your missing or damaged teeth? It makes sense – your smile says a whole lot about you before you even speak. If you’re missing any teeth or your teeth are damaged beyond the need for a dental filling, you may be a good candidate for dental crowns. Also called caps, these crowns restore the look, feel, and function of natural teeth. The first sign you may require a dental crown could be a persistent toothache that indicates possible tooth decay. If the decay is extensive, it may require a root canal or dental implant to repair, followed by the placement of a dental crown.
The Process of Getting a Crown
Once you accept your treatment plan and sign on the dotted line, it will only take 2 visits before your permanent crown is in place. During the initial appointment, the open space in your mouth will be measured using a mold casting that is sent to a dental laboratory where the permanent porcelain crown can be made by a master lab technician and color matched to your natural teeth. In the meantime, you will be fitted for a temporary crown that will allow you to eat and speak normally. The follow-up appointment is when you will have your permanent crown cemented down after it is evaluated for fit and appearance. Crowns typically only need to be re-cemented once every 2 to 3 decades, making them as beautiful as they are durable.
What Are My Other Treatment Options?
Your dentist will discuss any and all treatment options with you. Typically, a dental crown is recommended when decay or damage to a tooth is too severe to warrant a dental filling as a viable solution. Dental crowns are also placed for patients post-root canal or dental implant surgery. No matter what we recommend to you, you can rest assured we will work diligently to maximize your dental insurance and provide flexible payment plans so you can get the treatment you need.
